Cloudy skies and low temperatures could not cool off the competition during the opening
day of the 2009 BoatU.S Santa Maria Cup. Winds died in the afternoon of the 27th allowing only 2 flights of racing. Three tiers were tied with 2 wins each including Claire Leroy of France and Jenny Tulloch and Katy Lovell of the USA. Racing will resume at 0900 on Thursday the 28th when stronger winds are expected.

Raced annually for the past 16 years under the leadership of Eastport Yacht Club, Annapolis, Maryland, the BoatU.S Santa Maria Cup features 10 teams of 4 women competing in a round-robin set of match races. This format is similar to the America’s Cup challenge. The 2009 event has attracted teams from: Australia, Brazil, France, Italy, Portugal and the United States.
