Eastport Yacht Club announced today that the 2011 Notice of Race (NOR) has been posted and they are now accepting requests for invitations to compete in the 2011 Santa Maria Cup, a premier Women’s Match Racing event. This International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Grade 1 championship will be held in Annapolis, Maryland from September 27 – October 1. The 2009 and 2010 Santa Maria Cup Champion, Claire Leroy of France, is expected to defend her title.
Competition has become fierce in Women’s Match Racing worldwide in anticipation of the 2012 Olympics where this event will make its Olympic debut. The Santa Maria Cup is the only ISAF Grade 1 Women’s Match Racing event to be held outside of Florida and Wisconsin in 2011 and one of only five to be held in the US. Competitors who wish to be considered for participation in this world-class event must request an invitation on the event website, www.santamariacup.org no later than May 30.
